2024 is here. It’s common at this time of year talk about all the things you hope to accomplish in the upcoming 365 days. I’m guilty of it, of course, and there’s nothing wrong with it, per se. My last newsletter did a little bit of that, after all.

I’ve always found it funny that as humans, we start our new year in the dead of winter and expect ourselves to kick off new habits and a change of lifestyle or a whole new way of seeing the world simply at the turn of a clock.

Yet, winter in nature is the time for rest. The time for deep sleep, and hot drinks, and soaking up as much warmth and light as you can to prepare for the springtime. (It is also the time for the seasonal sads, so, you know.)

I saw a meme the other day that said “January is not the time to start new shit. That’s, like, February. At earliest. Go back to bed, babe.”

And I’m not saying that’s where I’m at… but it’s something I might try. Next year. When I have fewer things on my plate. My ambitious fall-time self always forgets how tired my winter-self gets.
